Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has taken bold action to protect workers’ salaries by banning all non-statutory deductions, including those from cooperative associations and commodity vendors. This move aims to sanitize the state’s payroll system, which was plagued by unauthorized and illegal deductions.
According to Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor’s spokesman, the decision was made in response to numerous complaints from workers about illegal surcharges disguised as cooperative and commodity loan repayments ¹. These deductions had become a significant burden on workers, and Governor Lawal has instructed the Commissioner of Finance to put an immediate stop to them.
