Alhaji Illiyasu Buhari Maijega, Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, has made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to provide additional security support to tackle the escalating issue of banditry in the state. Maijega’s plea comes as bandits continue to wreak havoc across Zamfara, highlighting the urgent need for collective action to eliminate their activities.
Maijega emphasized that addressing insecurity in Zamfara is a shared responsibility, stating, “A single individual cannot resolve the issue of insecurity in Zamfara State; it is a collective responsibility.” He also encouraged the people of Zamfara to continue praying for peace and stability, underscoring the importance of peace in societal development.
The Special Adviser commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their efforts in combating insecurity in Zamfara. He urged them to sustain their efforts, recognizing the critical role they play in maintaining security in the state.
Governor Dauda Lawal has also been proactive in addressing the security challenges in Zamfara. Previously, he met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to discuss strategies for tackling banditry and other criminal activities in the state ¹. Additionally, the Zamfara State Government has inaugurated a Security Trust Fund to mobilize resources and support security efforts in the state.
The Zamfara State Government has been vocal about its opposition to negotiating with bandits, instead focusing on strengthening security measures and addressing the root causes of insecurity.
