Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu, stating that he has no regrets for backing him in the 2023 general elections. This declaration comes despite the intense criticism Wike faced for supporting a candidate from a different political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), while being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike, who served as the governor of Rivers State for eight years, expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for believing in him and offering him the position of FCT Minister. He acknowledged that his decision to support Tinubu was met with threats, but he remains resolute in his choice. “I have no regrets, I have no apologies. If the opportunity comes, I will do the same thing,” Wike stated during a thanksgiving service in Ochigba, organized by the PDP in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

The Minister also addressed allegations of land grabbing levelled against him by some residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Wike dismissed these claims as “laughable,” emphasizing that as the Minister in charge of lands in Abuja, he is committed to ensuring that the right things are done. He warned that those in possession of government land must comply with the necessary regulations or risk having their plots of land revoked.

Wike’s unwavering support for President Tinubu has sparked intense debate, with some critics questioning his loyalty to the PDP. However, Wike remains unapologetic, highlighting the benefits that his support has brought to the people of Rivers State. According to him, President Tinubu has demonstrated love for the state by appointing many sons and daughters of Rivers State into his government.
