A sense of fear and uncertainty has gripped Umuchima village in Isiala Ngwa North LGA of Abia State, following the return of unknown gunmen who killed a male indigene of the community. The victim was alleged to have provided information to the Nigerian Army about the existence of the gunmen in the community.

The incident occurred just days after the Nigerian Army announced that its troops had destroyed a camp in Umuchima, as part of its efforts to flush out gunmen terrorizing the state. The Army’s operation was carried out by personnel of the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, who clashed with the unidentified gunmen in Umuchima village.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen stormed the village in a commando-like style, killing the alleged informant and sending shockwaves throughout the community. The fleeing villagers, who took some of their important belongings with them, expressed their fear of becoming victims of circumstance.

One of the villagers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “The fear is real. They just stormed the village and killed a native who they accused of being an informant.” The villager’s words echo the sentiment of many in the community, who are living in fear of the unknown gunmen.

The Abia State Government and security agencies have vowed to flush out the gunmen terrorizing the state. However, the gunmen have continued to wreak havoc, killing many security operatives in the process.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that its troops have been working to dismantle the gunmen’s camps in the state. In a recent statement, the Army announced that its troops had destroyed a camp in Umuchima, as part of its efforts to restore peace and security in the area.

As the situation in Umuchima village continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the people of Abia State are living in fear, and it is up to the government and security agencies to take decisive action to restore peace and security in the state.
