Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has extended heartfelt apologies to the families of the victims of the recent bombing in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State. In a statement released by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, on Saturday, Shettima expressed deep regret over the incident, which resulted in the loss of 10 lives.
The Vice President acknowledged that the military’s operation against the Lakurawa insurgent group had inadvertently claimed the lives of innocent civilians. He described the incident as a “rare and deeply saddening instance” and emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting the lives of all citizens.
Shettima’s apology was accompanied by a call for understanding and support for the armed forces, who he said were making sacrifices to protect the lives of those caught in the crossfire. He also solicited more support for the troops, emphasizing the importance of providing useful information to enable them to maintain greater accuracy and precision in identifying terrorists.
The Vice President reassured the people of Sokoto State of the Federal Government’s commitment to eradicating terror groups and other criminal elements from the country. He vowed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration would not relent in its efforts to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.
In a poignant message, Shettima urged the families of the victims to accept his sincere apologies and appealed to the people of Sokoto State to continue supporting the military in their operations. He emphasized that security was a collective responsibility and that together, Nigerians could make a difference in the fight against terror.
