Washington, D.C. – The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has issued a stern warning to immigrants and visa applicants, reinforcing the stance of the U.S. government on national security and lawful entry into the country. Rubio’s message aligns with the ongoing hardline immigration policies championed by President Donald Trump’s administration, which has doubled down on strict vetting procedures and enforcement of immigration laws.
“U.S. visas are a privilege, rather than a right, reserved for those who make the United States better, not seek to destroy it from the inside,” Rubio stated.
He further elaborated on the legal framework governing visa issuance, citing the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). According to the act, any foreign national who endorses or promotes terrorist activity, or supports terrorist organizations such as Hamas, is automatically disqualified from receiving a U.S. visa.
“Under the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), aliens who endorse or espouse terrorist activity or persuade others to endorse or espouse terrorist activity or support a terrorist organisation—such as Hamas—are ineligible for U.S. visas,” Rubio stressed.
The Secretary of State highlighted that U.S. consular officers are mandated by law to scrutinize visa applicants thoroughly, ensuring that individuals who pose a threat to national security are barred from entering the country.
This strong message comes in the wake of a significant legal victory for the Trump administration’s immigration agenda. On Friday, Judge Jamee Comans in Louisiana upheld the administration’s authority to deport individuals linked to anti-American activities. The ruling targeted Mahmoud Khalil, who was identified as a leading figure in last year’s pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University. The court determined his actions violated the spirit of U.S. immigration laws.
In a sweeping move, the Trump administration has also revoked the visas of hundreds of international students in recent months, citing concerns over national security and political agitation. Many of these students were given only days to exit the U.S., signaling a clear message that the government will no longer tolerate any form of perceived subversion within its borders.
