
On October 14, 2025, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) intercepted a vehicle suspected of transporting illicit
substances during a routine stop-and-search operation in Akwanga Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.The
vehicle, an ash-colored Toyota Solara with registration number KJA-108FY (Lagos), was flagged down around Anguwan
Malama. Upon noticing the military personnel, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes.
Despite a swift pursuit, the suspect managed to evade capture. A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle led to the
discovery of several bags containing substances suspected to be marijuana. The vehicle and its contents have been
taken into military custody for further investigation and eventual handover to the appropriate authorities. Major General
Moses Gara, Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the troops for their vigilance
and professionalism. He emphasized the operation’s commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action and
enhancing inter-agency collaboration to ensure continued safety and stability across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba
states.This interception underscores the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian military to combat drug trafficking and other illicit activities within its operational areas.
