A tragic fire outbreak at an Islamic school in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, has claimed the lives of 17 students, with 15 others injured. President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the need for enhanced safety measures in schools across the country.The fire, which occurred at the Tsangaya school (Almajiri school), is believed to have been caused by burning corn stalks that engulfed the shelter where the pupils were asleep. The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that it received reports of the fire outbreak around 2:00 AM on Wednesday ¹.President Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, commiserated with the state government, the owners of the school, and the families of the victims. He also prayed for the quick recovery of those receiving medical attention ¹.The President emphasized the importance of prioritizing children’s safety and security in all schools, public and private. He directed regulatory authorities in the education sector to ensure compliance with safety standards, highlighting the need for a proactive approach to preventing such tragedies in the future.
