Human rights lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa has called for the immediate suspension of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests across Nigeria.
Adegboruwa cited the hijacking of the protests by fifth columnists and angry individuals, leading to the loss of lives and property, as the reason for his call.
He appealed to protesters to withdraw from protest grounds and suspend the demonstrations to allow for meaningful dialogue with the government.
He expressed regret over the deaths and losses recorded during the demonstrations, emphasizing that such outcomes were never the goal of the protests.
He had previously urged the organizers to reduce the 10-day protest to a single day and called on President Bola Tinubu to directly address the nation and engage with protesters.
Adegboruwa expressed concerns that the protests have been hijacked by fifth columnists and angry individuals, who are exploiting the situation for their own purposes .
He highlighted the resulting loss of lives and property, which was not the intended outcome of the protests .
Adegboruwa implied that the protests have deviated from their original purpose, which was to peacefully demand good governance and accountability
By allowing the protests to continue, there is a risk of further escalation and more harm to people and property .
Adegboruwa believes that suspending the protests and engaging in dialogue with the government can help to address the underlying issues and find a peaceful resolution .
