The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a suspected criminal died following a confrontation with a soldier on duty at the
Delta Marine Logistics and Technical (DMLT) Estate in Warri, Delta State. According to a statement released by
Captain Iliyasu Bawa-Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 63 Brigade in Asaba, the incident
occurred on 13 October 2025. The army explained that the soldier, stationed at the gate of the DMLT Estate, halted a group of
individuals who attempted to force entry into the premises without undergoing mandatory security checks. When the
soldier asked about their identities and intentions, the group became aggressive and allegedly violent. The matter quickly
escalated into a physical struggle. During the clash, the soldier reportedly acted in self-defence, using combat skills to
subdue one of the assailants. The injured suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but was later pronounced
dead. The Otu-Jeremi Police Division was promptly notified and has commenced investigations into the incident. In its
communication, the army also urged residents of Delta State to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security
procedures, emphasizing that respect for the fundamental human rights of citizens is a priority in its operations.
