Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has strongly criticized the Nigerian Police Force for re-arresting a TikToker, who was allegedly involved in cyberbullying Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).Sowore, who is also the publisher of Sahara Reporters, took to his social media handles to express his outrage over the re-arrest, describing it as a gross abuse of power and an attempt to silence critics of the influential pastor. He argued that the police action was unwarranted and that the TikToker’s alleged offense did not warrant such drastic measures.The TikToker, whose identity has not been disclosed, was initially arrested and detained by the police for allegedly posting a video that mocked Pastor Adeboye. However, after being released on bail, the TikToker was re-arrested, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation from human rights activists and advocates for free speech.Sowore’s condemnation of the police action is the latest in a series of criticisms from Nigerians who are concerned about the growing trend of intimidation and harassment of citizens who express dissenting opinions or criticize influential figures. Many have argued that the police action is a clear example of how the Nigerian government is using its power to silence critics and stifle free speech.
