Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has officially inaugurated the Ultramodern North West University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto, marking a major milestone for the institution established by Senator Aliyu Wamakko. The hospital, a pioneering healthcare facility in the North West geopolitical zone, received formal approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in May this year.
At the inauguration ceremony, Governor Aliyu reaffirmed the Sokoto State Government’s commitment to collaborate with North West University in improving healthcare delivery across the state. He highlighted that the new hospital is set to reduce overdependence on Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, for patient admissions and will help curb medical tourism in the region.
Governor Aliyu praised Senator Wamakko for his significant contributions that have advanced healthcare services and laid the foundation for this ultramodern facility.
In his remarks, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, founder and proprietor of North West University, commended Governor Aliyu for his consistent but low-profile achievements across various sectors. The senator also announced plans to admit medical students in the upcoming academic calendar and revealed intentions to establish a postgraduate school at the university.
Professor Mukhtar Umar Bunza, Vice Chancellor of North West University, expressed appreciation to the Federal Executive Council for granting a full-scale operational license to the institution, enabling it to function as a leading healthcare and teaching hub in the North West.
The inauguration ceremony included a tour of the hospital’s facilities, during which Governor Aliyu and Senator Wamakko were accompanied by Dr. Lawal Bello, Chief Medical Administrator of the hospital, who showcased the hospital’s various departments and services.
This development signifies a significant step forward for healthcare advancement in Sokoto State and is expected to provide quality medical services to residents, while also supporting medical education and research in the region.
