A gruesome murder occurred on New Year’s Day in Ilorin, Kwara State, claiming the life of AbdulRazaq Ajani, a retired Controller of Works at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing. Ajani was attacked and killed by four young men, aged between 18 and 22, who trailed him to his residence after he returned from a holiday trip to Offa, Kwara State. The incident took place around 3 p.m. at Dele Gege Street, Aderoju area, off Awolowo Road in the Tanke Area of Ilorin. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants casually entered Ajani’s compound moments after he arrived home with his family. The family members watched in horror as the attackers hacked Ajani to death with small axes. The police have commenced an investigation into the incident, with the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kwara Police Command, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun (DSP), confirming the incident. However, no arrests have been made yet. Ajani, a civil engineer, retired from the Federal Ministry of Works about four years ago but had accepted a contract appointment at the ministry last year. He was described by neighbors as a kind and gentle soul, and his wife owns a popular confectionery, Reo Cakes, in Ilorin. The motive behind the murder is still unclear, but speculation suggests it may have been an inside job, as the CCTV cameras at the main gate had been removed prior to the attack.
