Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, the representative for Aba North and Aba South in the House of Representatives, has vowed to address allegations that he assaulted a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseye, who delivered a package to his Abuja residence. The controversy began when a video surfaced showing Ikwechegh allegedly slapping and verbally insulting Abuwatseye after being asked to come outside to collect a delivery of snails.

In the footage, Ikwechegh can be heard chastising Abuwatseye, taking issue with being asked to come outside for the delivery, and making comments about his social status. He’s also heard threatening to “make the driver disappear” without consequences. Ikwechegh has since acknowledged receiving numerous calls from across Nigeria regarding the viral video and has promised a comprehensive response to the allegations. Ikwechegh spoke to Vanguard on Monday night, confirming that he would issue a full response on Tuesday to address the incident. The House of Representatives has also broken its silence on the matter, releasing a statement titled ‘Response to Allegations of Assault Involving Rep. Alex Ikwechegh (APGA, Abia).

We’ll have to wait for Ikwechegh’s official response to get his side of the story, but the incident has already sparked significant outrage and attention on social media.
