President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to collaborate with his administration in transitioning the country from a consuming economy to a producing one. This appeal was made during the 10th National Labour Summit and Award, organized by the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS) in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Represented by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, President Tinubu emphasized the need for collective involvement in governance and production. “We are a consuming economy,” he stated. “Everybody has to join the production hub to see that in the near future, everybody will be satisfied, and food will be on the table of every Nigerian.
The President’s administration is committed to moving Nigeria away from poverty, and he urged all Nigerians to be part of this movement. “We are at the verge by which everybody has to be involved,” he said. “We are at the point where everybody has to understand what the economic indices are and how to improve them, rather than staying in one place, idly complaining.”
The theme of the summit, “The future of work and Renewed Hope Reform Agenda: Issues and perspective,” highlights the need for a collaborative approach to addressing the country’s economic challenges. President Tinubu’s call to action emphasizes the importance of social dialogue and mutual understanding in driving progress.
Director General of MINILS, Issa Aremu, reported that the institute has made significant progress in achieving its ministerial targets, surpassing the 2024 target of 1,250 to over 2,000. MINILS has also impacted over 3,500 workers in private and public sectors, with a significant gender mix and representation from all six geopolitical zones.
