President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo on his inauguration as the Governor of Edo State, urging him to prioritize the empowerment of the legislative arm of
government and other vital institutions. Tinubu emphasized that a robust and independent legislature is crucial for achieving democratic good governance, highlighting the previous administration’s attempts to undermine the legislative branch, which hindered its effectiveness during Godwin Obaseki’s tenure.
Tinubu encouraged Okpebholo to enhance the living standards of Edo State residents and make a significant impact during his tenure. After eight years under Obaseki’s administration, Edo State has rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) ranks, and Tinubu stressed the importance of Okpebholo justifying the confidence placed in him and the APC by fostering true democracy and effective governance.
“The previous administration’s attempts to undermine the legislative branch hindered its effectiveness for much of its tenure,” Tinubu stated, emphasizing the need for Okpebholo to empower the Legislature and other vital government institutions throughout his administration.
Additionally, Tinubu commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the successful conduct of the Edo governorship election and encouraged the commission to strive for even greater excellence in the upcoming Ondo governorship election, scheduled for November 16, 2024 Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Tinubu at the inauguration in Benin City. Okpebholo must justify the confidence placed in him and the APC by fostering true democracy and effective governance.
