In a daring operation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intercepted a white Peugeot 15-seater bus transporting 59 children suspected to have been trafficked. The bus was stopped at a checkpoint in the nation’s capital, Abuja, leading to the rescue of the children and the arrest of the suspected traffickers.
According to the FCT Police Command, the children, who are mostly between the ages of 4 and 14, were being transported from the northeastern part of the country to an unknown destination. Preliminary investigations suggest that the children may have been trafficked for forced labor, begging, or other forms of exploitation.
The Rescue Operation
The police command’s operatives, who were acting on a tip-off, intercepted the bus at a checkpoint in the early hours of the morning. Upon searching the vehicle, they found the 59 children, who were cramped and in a state of distress.
The police immediately took custody of the children and provided them with food, water, and medical attention. The children are currently being housed at a safe location, where they are receiving counseling and support.
Arrest of Suspects
The police have arrested four suspects in connection with the child trafficking attempt. The suspects, who are currently being detained at the FCT Police Command, will be charged to court as soon as possible.
Investigation Ongoing
The FCT Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the child trafficking attempt. The police are working to identify the source of the children, the intended destination, and the motives behind the trafficking attempt.
