Operatives from the 47 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Zaria, Kaduna State, have made a significant breakthrough in their efforts to curb the illicit trade in firearms. During a routine patrol along the Zaria-Jos Road, the operatives arrested two suspected gunrunners, who were found to be in possession of a large cache of locally made firearms and live cartridges.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Command, ASP Munsir Hassan, the suspects were identified as 40-year-old Zubairu Musa and 17-year-old Nasiru Saidu, both natives of Kankara local government area of Katsina State. The police spokesperson revealed that the suspects were found with a bag containing eight locally made pump-action guns, one locally made pistol, and sixty-five live cartridges.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects were involved in the illegal trafficking of firearms, and they are currently cooperating with the police to aid in the apprehension of their accomplices and to uncover the full extent of the gunrunning network within the state.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Abdullahi, has commended the officers for their swift response and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order. CP Abdullahi further urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police, emphasizing the importance of community policing in preventing and combating crime.
The arrest of the two suspected gunrunners is a significant achievement for the Kaduna State Police Command, and it demonstrates their commitment to tackling the menace of gunrunning and other forms of criminality in the state.
