Police Arrest Five Fake Security Officers Operating Across Northern States in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended five individuals suspected of being part of an inter-state syndicate

specializing in impersonating security officers to defraud unsuspecting citizens.According to the Police Public

Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were arrested after intelligence reports revealed

their activities across several northern states, including Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Jigawa. Kiyawa disclosed that the

suspects had been operating under the guise of various law enforcement agencies, including the Nigerian Police

Force and the Nigerian Army, deceiving victims by promising employment, bail assistance, and protection services.

He said: “Following credible intelligence, the Command’s tactical team arrested five suspects who have been parading

themselves as members of security agencies. They have been extorting money from innocent citizens under the false

pretence of offering them assistance with police or military recruitment. ”Items recovered from the suspects include fake

identification cards, military camouflage uniforms, police insignias, and several mobile phones used to coordinate their

illegal operations. Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang had established a network across multiple states, where they

targeted vulnerable individuals seeking jobs or security help. The suspects reportedly charged their victims various

sums of money, claiming to have “connections” with senior officers in the police and military. The PPRO further

stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation. He urged residents to remain

vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving individuals claiming to be security personnel. Commissioner of

Police in Kano State, CP Salman Dogo Garba, commended the efforts of the operatives and reaffirmed the command’s

commitment to eradicating criminal elements who tarnish the reputation of the security services. He said the police would

continue to intensify operations aimed at tracking and arresting impersonators and other criminal groups operating within and

outside the state. The suspects are currently in custody, assisting the police

with further investigation as authorities work to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate still at large.
