Nigerian opposition parties are gearing up to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. To achieve this, they are forming a strong alliance, dubbed the “mother of opposition alliance” or “granite coalition.” This move is aimed at stopping President Bola Tinubu from winning a second term in 2027.

Key Players in the Opposition Alliance

Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives, is a key proponent of the alliance.

Otunba Segun Showunmi, former spokesman for the PDP 2023 Presidential Candidate, has launched the National Opposition Movement Coalition (NOMC), also known as ‘The Alternative.’

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has endorsed the move, vowing to oust President Tinubu in 2027.

The National Consultative Front (NCFront) has declared its readiness to drive the formation and launching of a mega political movement of opposition stakeholders.

Goals and Objectives of the Opposition Alliance

To challenge the APC and President Tinubu in the 2027 elections

To provide a strong and credible opposition to the ruling party

To address the erosion of electoral integrity, lack of ideological direction in political parties, and declining voter confidence in the country

– To restore citizens’ faith in democratic processes and promote good governance, transparency, and accountability

However, the opposition alliance also presents an opportunity for Nigerians to demand better governance and promote democratic accountability.

As the 2027 elections approach, the opposition alliance is likely to play a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape. Will this alliance be able to challenge the APC’s dominance and promote democratic change in Nigeria? Only time will tell.
