It’s been a year since Taiwo Oyekanmi, the Director of Finance in the Ogun State governor’s office, was brutally murdered by five hooded gunmen in Abeokuta ¹. The incident occurred on November 29, 2023, while Oyekanmi was returning from a bank where he had withdrawn funds for the state. The gunmen hijacked the bullion van, opened fire on Oyekanmi, and made away with the money.
Despite the Ogun State Government’s offer of a N50 million reward for information leading to the arrest of the killers, no one has been apprehended ¹. The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, had initially stated that the investigation was at an advanced stage, but unfortunately, no progress has been made.
In a recent interview, Alamutu expressed his regrets over the lack of progress in the case, citing the absence of information or claims as a major obstacle ¹. Despite his efforts, Alamutu is set to retire on Monday, December 9, 2024, after a 35-year career in the Nigeria Police Force.
Alamutu’s successor will inherit the task of bringing Oyekanmi’s killers to justice. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring that those responsible for heinous crimes are held accountable.
