The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken a significant step towards ensuring the success of the Ondo State governorship election, scheduled to take place on Saturday. The commission has distributed sensitive materials to all 18 local government areas of the state, in a bid to ensure that the election is conducted in a free and fair manner.
According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, Oluwatoyin Babalola, the early distribution of sensitive materials to the local government areas is a testament to the commission’s readiness to conduct a hitch-free election. Babalola noted that the distribution exercise was going on smoothly, with all the local governments receiving their materials and loading them into vehicles.
The commission has also made arrangements to deploy election materials to the riverine areas of the state, which pose a significant logistical challenge. Babalola explained that the commission would be deploying boats in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy to ensure that election materials are delivered to these areas.
The State Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Adesanya Olaoluwa, has commended INEC for its transparency in the distribution exercise. Olaoluwa noted that all the political parties participating in the election are ready to cooperate with the commission to ensure a successful election.
