Festus Akingbaso, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, has raised the alarm over the influx of thugs in Idanre local government area of the state. Akingbaso, a member of the House of Representatives, spoke to newsmen after casting his vote at Polling Unit 005, Oke Imikan.
While expressing satisfaction with the turnout of voters and the security situation so far, Akingbaso expressed worry over the activities of thugs in the area. He advised voters to wait behind and keep watch until the final result has been announced, saying, “If everything goes as planned, my party will win.”
Akingbaso alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has brought in suspected thugs to Idanre local government area, occupying villages such as Ofosun, Omifunfun, and Allah. He also reported an incident in Ofosun where suspected thugs broke into the house of a party member to prevent him from voting.
The PDP candidate stated that he has reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the Department of State Services (DSS), but to his expectation, the security agencies have not been able to take any action.
This development has raised concerns about the safety and security of voters in Idanre local government area, and the potential for violence and disruption of the electoral process. The people of Ondo State are eagerly waiting to see how the situation will unfold.
