Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, is poised to win the Ondo State governorship election held on Saturday, November 16, 2024. As of 10:47 PM, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had uploaded 98.42% of the election results to its IREV portal.
A thorough analysis of the results from all 18 local government areas by PM NEWS suggests that Aiyedatiwa will secure victory in 16 local governments, with significant margins in many areas. Although only INEC is authorized to officially declare election results, projections indicate that Aiyedatiwa’s closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), may win in Idanre Local Government.
The outcome in Ese-Odo, Ajayi’s home council, remains too close to call. However, Aiyedatiwa is projected to win landslide victories in several areas, including Akoko North East, Ifedore, Akoko South West, Akoko North West, Okitipupa, Akoko South East, Ileoluji/Okeigbo, Ilaje, Owo, Ondo East, Erelu, and Akure North.
Sample polling unit results show a significant lead for Aiyedatiwa in various wards. For instance, in Ekan Ward PU 003, the APC candidate secured 192 votes, while the PDP candidate received 45 votes. Similarly, in Iyometa II Ward PU 012, the APC candidate won 170 votes, while the PDP candidate secured only 7 votes.
INEC is expected to officially declare Aiyedatiwa the winner of the November 16 election early Sunday morning, marking a significant triumph for the APC in Ondo State. The commission’s portal provides real-time updates on the election results, ensuring transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
In addition to the election results, the INEC portal also provides information on the voter registration process, voting guidelines, and electoral laws. The commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability is evident in its efforts to provide accurate and timely information to the public ².
The Ondo State governorship election is a significant event in Nigeria’s electoral calendar, and the outcome is expected to have far-reaching implications for the state and the country as a whole. As the official results are awaited, the APC and its supporters are optimistic about Aiyedatiwa’s chances of emerging victorious.
