The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural organization, has called on the federal government to include ethnicity and religion in the upcoming 2025 census. The group emphasized the importance of capturing this data to ensure accurate representation of the various ethnic groups in Nigeria, particularly the Igbo people.

In a statement released by the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the organization commended President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to reform Nigeria through the establishment of six geopolitical zones. However, they stressed that the inclusion of ethnicity and religion in the census is crucial for addressing historical issues between different ethnic groups.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo also encouraged Igbo businessmen to take the lead in establishing an international economic hub in the Southeast region. This move aims to promote economic growth and development in the area.
