Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended seven suspected cultists who have been terrorizing the Ijebu-Ode area of the state. The suspects, identified as Balogun Ibrahim, Towolawi Omotayo, Oshodi Oluwaseun, Nkechi John, Mustapha Aliu, Opeyemi Rasheed, and Mustapha Sikiru, are alleged members of the Aiye Confraternity, also known as the Black Axe cult group.
According to the police PRO, Omolola Odutola, the suspects had been on the command’s watchlist for various cult-related crimes, including robberies, housebreaking, and illicit drug use. The police recovered a cut-to-size, locally made, single-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, and a handheld axe during the arrest.
The suspects were apprehended on Thursday during a sting operation by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team. Odutola stated that the police received intelligence that the suspected cultists were spotted along Ogbo on Ijebu-Ode Road, leading to their arrest.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected members of the cult group in the area. The police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Ogun State.
