The Obidient Movement has expressed deep concern over the recent comments made by Felix Morka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary, which they perceive as a direct threat to the life of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election. During an Arise TV appearance on January 5, 2025, Morka stated that Obi has “crossed the line so many times and he has what’s coming to him, and whatever he gets, he should manage it.” The Obidient Movement views this statement as not only an attack on Obi but also a disturbing signal of Nigeria’s descent into authoritarianism under the Tinubu administration. The movement considers Morka’s statement a blatant endorsement of violence and a threat to Obi’s life and the peace of the Nigerian state. The Obidient Movement believes that the ruling party’s actions and statements are indicative of a broader trend towards authoritarianism in Nigeria. The movement demands to know what specific actions or statements by Obi justify the APC’s threats and under what authority the party is making these claims. The Obidient Movement has called on Nigerians and the international community to take note of the APC’s alleged pattern of intimidation and threats. They have also urged the security services to engage Morka and elucidate on his utterance, rather than sweeping the issue under the carpet. In a statement, the movement emphasized that if any harm befalls Obi, his family, or anyone associated with him, the Nigerian government and its agents will be held directly responsible.
