NiMet Forecasts Moderate Dust and Sunshine Across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released its weather outlook for Monday to Wednesday, predicting moderate dust and sunshine across the country. According to NiMet’s forecast, moderate dust is expected on Monday with localized visibilities of less than or equal to 1000m anticipated throughout the forecast period in the northern region ¹.

In the North central region, slight dust with localized visibilities of 2km to 5km is expected during the forecast period. The southern region can expect patches of cloud with sunshine intervals over the inland and coastal cities during the morning hours. However, thunderstorms with slight rains are expected over parts of Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa later in the day.

On Tuesday, moderate dust is anticipated in the northern region with localized visibilities of less than or equal to 1000m throughout the forecast period. Slight dust with localized visibilities of 2km to 5km is expected in the North central region. The southern region can expect sunny skies with patches of clouds over the inland and coastal cities in the morning hours, followed by thunderstorms with slight rains over parts of Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom States later in the day.

For Wednesday, NiMet forecasts slight dust in the northern region with localized visibilities of 2km to 5km throughout the forecast period. Slight dust with localized visibilities of 2km to 5km is also expected in the North central region. The southern region can expect sunny skies with patches of clouds over the inland and coastal cities in the morning hours, followed by thunderstorms with slight rain over parts of Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom States later in the day.

NiMet advises people with Asthmatic health conditions and other respiratory issues to be cautious of the present weather condition. Additionally, strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur.
