Nigeria’s crude oil production has reached a significant milestone, hitting 1.8 million barrels per day (mbpd) as of November 2024. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) made the announcement on Thursday, revealing that gas production has also risen to 7.4 billion standard cubic feet per day.
The achievement has been attributed to the collaborative effort NNPCL, security forces, and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), a private security outfit handling the pipeline protection contract awarded by the Federal Government. The contract aims to check oil theft in the Niger Delta.
Chairman of TSSNL, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, has expressed his commitment to realizing the target of 2 million barrels per day by December 2024, as directed by President Bola Tinubu. Tompolo stated that TSSNL is working tirelessly to ensure that the target is achieved, with new technologies being deployed to monitor facilities and prevent disruptions.
The NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, congratulated the Production War Room Team for their efforts in driving production recovery and escalating production to expected levels. Kyari noted that the feat was achieved in compliance with the mandate of President Bola Tinubu.
The Production War Room Team was inaugurated on June 25, 2024, with production at 1.430 mbpd. The team’s efforts led to a sustained production recovery of 1.7 mbpd in August and 1.808 mbpd in November.
The team is confident that with the current momentum and active collaboration of all stakeholders, especially on the security front, Nigeria can reach the target of 2 million barrels per day by the end of the year.
The rise in crude oil production is expected to boost government revenue, making more funds available for the President and his team to run the country effectively. The development has attracted plaudits for the NNPCL and other stakeholders involved in attaining the feat.
As Nigeria edges closer to achieving its crude oil production target, the country is poised to regain its position as Africa’s top crude oil producer. With the collaborative efforts of the NNPCL, security forces, and TSSNL, Nigeria is on track to reach new heights in crude oil production.
