In a significant breakthrough, Nigerian troops have arrested a woman identified as Shamsiyya, who was caught with a large quantity of ammunition intended for delivery to a terrorist hideout in Zamfara State ¹. The arrest was made at a checkpoint while Shamsiyya was attempting to transport the package from Hanka to its final destination.
During interrogation, Shamsiyya claimed she was unaware of the contents of the package, which she was instructed to deliver by a Hausa individual she did not know. She admitted to receiving transport fare for the delivery but was not informed about the contents. Shamsiyya also expressed concern for her two children and stated that she did not want any harm to come to them.
The arrest of Shamsiyya is a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of security operatives to combat terrorism and criminal activities in the region. The Nigerian military has been strengthening its operations to curb the activities of insurgents in the northeast, including in areas like Zamfara, where attacks by armed groups have escalated in recent months.
