In a significant boost to the country’s counter-terrorism efforts, troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, deployed for ‘Operation Fasan Gamma,’ have successfully destroyed 22 camps of the notorious Lakurawa terrorists in Sokoto and Kebbi states. This decisive operation also resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, including four rifles, 409 PKT, 7.62mm, NATO, and 7.62mm special rounds ammunition.

Prior to the operation, troops had conducted precursor and shaping operations in the forests and enclaves of the bandits, specifically targeting areas in Rumji Dutse, east of Sarma, Tusauna, Bauni, Malgatawa, Gargao, Tsauna, Mafara, Kaideji, Nakuru, Sama, Sanyinna, Kaididda, Kolo, and Dancha villages in Illela, Tangaza, and Bingo local government areas of Sokoto State.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, had earlier deployed a Special Operations Brigade to Sokoto and Kebbi states to consolidate successes achieved in the ongoing precursor operation under Operation Forest Sanity III. The primary objective of this deployment is to destroy the Lakurawa terrorists and restore normalcy to the affected communities and the North-West region in general.

Addressing the troops, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, the General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 2 Operation Fasan Yamma, ordered the total destruction of the Lakurawa sect. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the rules of engagement and ensuring the protection of lives and properties of law-abiding citizens.

According to General Ajose, the troops have been carefully selected and trained for this mission, and Nigerians are counting on their ability and professionalism to flush out the Lakurawa terrorists. He added that the deployment of the Brigade will provide an added impetus in frustrating the activities of the bandits and restoring normalcy to the affected communities.
