Nigeria has achieved a major milestone by securing a seat as a key player in the Total Official Support for Sustainable Development Goals (TOSSD) initiative.
The announcement was made by Dr. Yusuf Yakub, the Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to Dr. Yakub, Nigeria’s inclusion in the global TOSSD framework marks a significant recognition of the country’s commitment to sustainable development and its active participation in international development cooperation.
He explained that the TOSSD platform serves as a comprehensive international standard for tracking all official financial support provided for the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs). The framework, he noted, helps in promoting transparency, accountability, and coordination among donor and recipient countries in the global effort toward sustainable growth.
Dr. Yakub emphasized that Nigeria’s participation in TOSSD would not only strengthen the nation’s global standing but also open new opportunities for
development partnerships and technical cooperation. He added that this achievement reflects the government’s continuous efforts to integrate sustainability into national planning and international engagement.
He further highlighted that the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), under his leadership, has been instrumental in driving Nigeria’s contribution to South-
South cooperation deploying Nigerian professionals to various countries to support development initiatives in education, health, agriculture, and governance.
“Nigeria’s recognition as a major player in TOSSD is an acknowledgment of our growing role in international development and humanitarian
assistance,” Yakub stated. “This will also enable us to better measure and report our contributions toward the global sustainable development agenda.”
He reaffirmed the country’s dedication to collaborating with international partners to accelerate progress toward achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development, stressing that Nigeria’s inclusion in TOSSD would enhance data-driven planning and evidence-based decision-making.
Dr. Yakub concluded that the Nigerian government remains committed to ensuring that all national and
international programs align with the Sustainable Development Goals, reinforcing Nigeria’s leadership role within the global development community.
