In a significant move to bolster educational and technical collaboration across Africa, the Nigerian government has dispatched
12 volunteers under the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) program. These volunteers, comprising professors and lecturers, are
set to serve in Sierra Leone and Uganda, marking a continuation of Nigeria’s commitment to supporting capacity
building in the Global South. The deployment ceremony took place in Abuja, where Dr. Yusuf Yakub, the Director-
General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps, officially handed over the volunteers. He emphasized the importance of discipline, patriotism, and
professionalism, urging the volunteers to uphold these values during their assignments. The volunteers are expected
to contribute to bridging educational gaps and enhancing the quality of education in the host countries.This initiative aligns
with Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives, aiming to strengthen its relevance not only in Africa but also globally. By providing
technical support through the deployment of skilled professionals, Nigeria seeks to foster goodwill, enhance bilateral relations,
and contribute to the development of human capital in Sierra Leone and Uganda. The deployment of these volunteers
underscores Nigeria’s role as a leader in promoting South-South cooperation and solidarity. Through the TAC program,
Nigeria continues to demonstrate its commitment to assisting fellow African nations in addressing developmental challenges and achieving sustainable growth.
