The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled two major cross-border drug trafficking syndicates, seizing cocaine and opioids worth billions of naira. After months of intelligence gathering and surveillance, six leaders of the cartels were arrested across Nigeria.
According to Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, the syndicates comprised Nigerians and Cameroonians who supplied drugs to terror groups in Nigeria and Cameroon. The leaders arrested include Ibrahim Bawuro, Najib Ibrahim, Ibrahim Umar, Nelson Udechukwu Anayo, Ezeh Amaechi Martin, and Adejumo Elijah Ishola.
NDLEA operatives recovered 276,500 pills of tramadol, 3.3 kilograms of cocaine, and 600 grams of synthetic cannabis. Other seizures include 31,750,000 pills of Voltron, a controlled opioid, and 700 grams of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis.
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men involved in the arrests and seizures. He encouraged continued intensification of advocacy efforts to combat drug abuse.
The agency’s efforts have yielded significant results in Kwara, Abuja, Plateau, Kano, Kaduna, Edo, and Ondo states, with substantial seizures of cannabis sativa and tramadol.
NDLEA’s crackdown on drug trafficking syndicates demonstrates its commitment to curbing the illicit drug trade and promoting public safety.
