The National Assembly has commenced consideration of the N49.7 trillion 2025 budget at the committee level, with the Senate announcing a two-week suspension of plenary sessions starting from January 14. This move aims to facilitate a thorough examination of the budget proposals.
Open Day for Stakeholders:
The Senate has scheduled an open day for Thursday, January 10, to gather inputs from various stakeholders, including heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
The Appropriation Committee has outlined a tentative timetable, which includes budget defence sessions starting from January 7, submission of reports from January 15 to 18, and collation of reports by the Appropriation Committee.The final report on the budget is expected to be laid before the Senate on January 31, 2025, although this date is tentative.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, acknowledged that the timeframe for consideration and passage of the 2025 budget is short. However, he emphasized the committee’s commitment to making the best of the available time.
