The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has denied enforcing a ban on sachet water, also known as ‘pure water’, in Lagos State. This denial comes after the Lagos State government denied reports that it had placed a ban on sachet water.
According to SPYROWNEWS reporter, the Minister of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, had claimed that the officers in a viral video enforcing the ban on sachet water were staff of NAFDAC. However, NAFDAC has swiftly reacted to deny this claim, stating that the individuals in the video were not its officials and that their actions did not align with NAFDAC’s standard operating procedure.
NAFDAC emphasized that stopping vehicles to destroy products is unprofessional and not part of its protocol. The agency’s denial has added to the confusion surrounding the viral video and the alleged ban on sachet water in Lagos State.
It is worth noting that the Lagos State government had earlier denied reports of a ban on sachet water, stating that it had no plans to implement such a ban ¹ ². The government’s denial was followed by NAFDAC’s statement, which has further clarified the agency’s position on the matter.
