The Nigerian military has dealt a significant blow to the terrorist group led by Bello Turji, with the confirmation of the killings of key commanders in an ongoing operation codenamed Operation Fansan Yamma.
The operation, which took place between January 20 and 21, targeted terrorist hideouts across Sokoto and Zamfara states. According to the Director of Defence Media Operations,
Maj-Gen. Edward Buba, the troops successfully neutralized Aminu Kanawa, Turji’s second-in-command, and inflicted terminal injuries on Dosso, Turji’s younger brother, and Danbokolo, one of Turji’s closest allies.
Several other commanders, including Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe, were also neutralized.In a separate encounter, troops neutralized Suleiman, a loyalist of the late terrorist leader Halilu Sububu, who was leading a reinforcement team to rescue Turji’s camp.
The military also eliminated over 24 fleeing terrorists from Turji’s camp in the Gebe and Isa Local Government Areas of Sokoto State, as well as the Gidan Rijiya area in Shinkafi LGA, Zamfara State.This operation is a significant milestone in the military’s efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
It’s worth noting that Bello Turji’s group has been responsible for several attacks and kidnappings in the region, and the neutralization of his key commanders is a major blow to his operations.
