In a shocking turn of events, Mathias Pogba, the brother of former Manchester United star Paul Pogba, has been handed a three-year prison sentence for his role in attempting to blackmail his brother. The 34-year-old was arrested and charged in late 2022 in connection with an £11 million extortion plot against Paul.

According to reports, a court in Paris sentenced Mathias to three years in prison, with two years suspended. However, instead of serving the remaining year in jail, Mathias will be under electronic monitoring. This development comes after Paul revealed that a group of childhood friends, including Mathias, had demanded money for “protection services” dating back 13 years.

The extortion plot had a profound impact on Paul, who considered retiring from football in 2023. The 31-year-old midfielder told police about the demands, which led to Mathias’s arrest and subsequent sentencing.

Mathias’s football career has been marked by stints with various clubs, including Wrexham, Crewe Alexandra, and Partick Thistle. However, his attempt to blackmail his brother has led to a significant setback, both personally and professionally.
