A 20-year-old man, Jelili Isiaka, has been convicted and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by an Ojo Magistrates Court in Lagos for stealing a motorcycle valued at N700,000. Isiaka was arraigned by the police on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and breach of peace, to which he pleaded guilty.
The court, presided over by Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni, found Isiaka guilty as charged and sentenced him to six months imprisonment on each of the three counts. The sentence was handed down after the prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, reviewed the facts of the case.
According to Uche, Isiaka and an accomplice still at large conspired to commit the offences on August 6 at Ajangbadi in Ojo. The prosecutor informed the court that Isiaka stole a CT 110 Korean motorcycle valued at N700,000, belonging to Mr. Chijioke Ezriem. In a clever but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to deceive the owner, Isiaka brought out bundles of papers wrapped in a nylon bag, pretending it was money, and used it to pay for the motorcycle.
However, Isiaka’s plan was foiled when he bolted with the motorcycle but was eventually arrested by the police. The offences contravened provisions of sections 168, 287, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
