Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed his delight with his team’s resilience and determination in their 2-2 draw against Fulham at Anfield. Despite being reduced to 10 men in the 17th minute, Liverpool twice fought back from a goal down to secure a valuable point.
Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota scored for Liverpool, who remain top of the Premier League on 36 points from 15 games, five points clear of Chelsea. Jota’s 86th-minute equalizer capped off an impressive comeback from the Reds.
Slot praised his team’s performance, stating, “I think it’s exactly the opposite from the Girona game, where I was pleased with the result, but not with the performance. Now I’m very, very, very happy about the performance. Couldn’t have asked for more.”
However, Slot acknowledged that the result was not what he had hoped for, especially considering Liverpool were playing at home against Fulham. “Of course, not with the result, because if you drop points in a home game against Fulham, that’s definitely not what you expect and what you want,” he said.
The turning point in the game came when Andy Robertson was sent off in the 17th minute for an awkward lunging tackle on Harry Wilson. A lengthy VAR check confirmed the red card and that Wilson was in an onside position. Slot attributed Robertson’s mistake to an early knock to his knee, which affected his judgment.
Despite the setback, Liverpool’s players and fans showed remarkable resilience and determination, fighting back to secure a draw. Slot praised the team’s spirit, saying, “Being two times a goal down, so many things go against you, except for one thing, that is our players and our fans, they were outstanding today.”
