Laolu Akande, a former spokesman for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has urged ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo to refrain from mocking other presidents. Akande’s remarks come in response to Obasanjo’s recent comment, in which he referred to President Bola Tinubu as “baba go-slow.”
Akande emphasized that Nigeria is grappling with significant political leadership challenges, which are rooted in a deeper problem that perpetuates these leadership issues. He stressed that former presidents like Obasanjo should strive to do better than simply ridiculing other presidents.
Obasanjo’s comment was made during a lecture at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University. In his address, the former president described the 2023 general elections as a travesty and accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of compromising the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
Akande’s reaction to Obasanjo’s comment highlights the need for constructive dialogue and respectful communication among Nigeria’s leaders.
