Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp at Agbowa, Ikorodu, will be completed before the end of 2024. The governor gave this assurance during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch C Stream 1 corps members, which took place at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, emphasized that the permanent orientation camp would be ready in December. He urged the corps members to take advantage of the orientation programs to develop themselves and become better individuals.
The governor also encouraged the corps members to pay attention to the various mentorship and entrepreneurial programs available under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development initiative. He noted that these programs are designed to help the corps members attain self-sufficiency and financial independence during and beyond their service year.
In addition, Sanwo-Olu advised the corps members to be active, have fun, and observe all camp rules. He also reminded them to stay within the camp, obey camp rules, listen to camp officials, and obey directives.
The Coordinator of NYSC in Lagos State, Mrs. Christana Salmwang, thanked Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s support for NYSC. She advised the corps members to be determined to take full advantage of the orientation programs to develop themselves.
Salmwang emphasized that the corps members have a role to play in the development of the nation, and urged them to play their roles in unity, integrity, and unflinching loyalty.
It’s worth noting that the Lagos State Government has set aside N5 billion to develop a new permanent site for the state’s NYSC orientation camp ¹. This move is aimed at providing a befitting permanent site for the NYSC orientation camp in Lagos State.
In related news, Sanwo-Olu had earlier approved the release of N5 billion for the construction of the proposed NYSC Permanent Camp located in Agbowa, Epe Division of the state ¹. This move is expected to accelerate the development of the site and address the logistics shortfall arising from the movement of personnel to neighboring states due to space constraints.
