In a shocking turn of events, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a prominent Lagos fabric merchant, Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye, for her involvement in a massive illicit drug trade. The 61-year-old socialite, known as “Iya Ruka” in the drug underworld, was taken into custody on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at her mansion in the Okota area of Lagos.According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Alhaja Ajoke’s true identity had been shrouded in mystery for years, despite being on the agency’s wanted list for leading a drug cartel operating from Mushin, Lagos. Her arrest was made possible after NDLEA operatives intercepted a truckload of illicit drugs from her staff, Abideen Adio, on the same day.The seized truck, a white Izuzu, contained 44 jumbo sacks with 1,540 kilograms of imported cannabis. Following the interception, NDLEA operatives stormed Alhaja Ajoke’s hideout, located at 33 Adebayo Oyewole street, off Ago Palace way, Okota, where she was arrested. On the surface, Alhaja Ajoke appeared to be a legitimate businesswoman, importing fabrics and shoes from China. However, beneath this façade lay a massive illicit drug trade. She was also recognized as the Iyalaje of Blessing Sisters, an influential club of society women in Lagos.
