Lagos Cracks Down: 5 Arrested for Blocking Road During Birthday Party

The Lagos State government has taken swift action against individuals who blocked a road in the Ikoyi area, arresting five people for constituting an environmental nuisance. According to Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the arrests were made on Saturday, October 19, after the group obstructed traffic and disrupted the environment during a birthday celebration on Raymond Njoku Road in Southwest Ikoyi. Those Arrested: were Omolara Ajetumobi the event planner Ogundare Olubunmi, the birthday celebrant Ayodele Busuyi, the musician, Owoeye Adedayo, the sound engineer and Akinola Akinkunmi, the vendor

The commissioner emphasized that these individuals will face trial in accordance with Lagos State laws, reinforcing the government’s stance that no one is above the law and state regulations will be enforced ¹. This move aligns with the government’s previous warnings against closing roads for parties or social events, vowing to arrest and prosecute offenders.

It’s worth noting that the Lagos State Government has been actively working to maintain environmental order, with previous clean-up efforts resulting in the impoundment of 215 vehicles and arrest of 98 people ². The state’s criminal law also outlines provisions for arresting offenders without warrant in certain situations.
