Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, made a splash on Saturday as they participated in the 2024 Lagos Boat Regatta. The vibrant event, themed “Our Water, Our Heritage, Our Life,” featured an impressive display of various sizes of water infrastructure and boat regattas from the five divisions of Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu took to his verified Facebook page to express his excitement about the event, stating that it embodied the essence of Lagosians and signified a transformation and revival of their culture. He emphasized that the regatta showcased the state’s unwavering commitment to developing tourism through its waterways.
With one-third of Lagos surrounded by water, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the importance of utilizing the state’s waterways not only as a mode of transportation but also as a vital ecosystem for tourism. The governor noted that the event offered a unique opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Lagos’ waterways.
President Bola Tinubu, who is currently in Lagos for the Yuletide holidays, was initially scheduled to attend the event but cancelled his appearance in honour of the stampede victims in Abuja and Okija, Anambra State.
The 2024 Lagos Boat Regatta was a resounding success, with Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat’s participation serving as a testament to the state’s rich cultural heritage.
