The Lagos State House of Assembly has called for swift justice following the tragic death of a dispatch rider allegedly beaten by a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Lawmakers during plenary expressed outrage over the incident, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable. They urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to book without delay.
The Assembly also demanded that the Ministry of Transportation and relevant unions put stricter measures in place to prevent such acts of violence from recurring.
Speaking on the matter, the Speaker of the House emphasized that Lagos must remain a safe state for all residents, including workers in the delivery and transport sectors.
The Assembly further commiserated with the family of the victim and assured them of its commitment to pursuing justice to the fullest extent.
Authorities have since launched an investigation into the matter, with calls mounting from civil society groups and the public for accountability and reform in the operations of transport unions across the state.
