The Kwara State government has successfully screened 102,452 people for hypertension and blood sugar in the state, marking a significant milestone in the fight against these diseases. This achievement was made possible through the successful implementation of Project 10 Million, an initiative aimed at screening 10 million Nigerians for blood pressure and blood sugar.
According to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, the project was initiated by commissioners for health in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory Administration. The exercise, which commenced on October 28 and ended on November 10, 2024, recorded significant successes, thanks to the cooperation of stakeholders, including state executive council members, royal fathers, health workers, and development partners.
Dr. El-Imam expressed her gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his support, adding that the initiative was one of the largest health interventions targeted at adults regardless of gender in the state. She also commended the people of Kwara State for their compliance with the exercise.
The commissioner emphasized the importance of continued screening for hypertension and diabetes, encouraging residents to regularly check their blood pressure and sugar levels to control the numbers and reduce mortality.
