Kwara State Police Command’s detectives have recovered the severed head of Rafiu Akao, an Okada rider brutally murdered by three assailants in Asunlere community, Oke-Oyi town, Ilorin East Local Government Area.
On November 4, 2024, Peter Samuel, Jeremiah Tiozinda, and Sunday Agbenke allegedly committed the heinous crime, motivated by a desire to steal Akao’s commercial motorcycle ¹. The suspects lured Akao to a secluded location using his phone contact, obtained from Sunday Agbenke.
Jeremiah Tiozinda struck Akao on the head with a stick, knocking him off his motorcycle. Despite Akao’s struggles to escape, Peter Samuel and Jeremiah Tiozinda overpowered him. Peter Samuel then used a cutlass to sever Akao’s head, which Jeremiah Tiozinda threw into a nearby stream along with the cutlass.
The Vigilante patrol team pursued the suspects after hearing the commotion, forcing them to abandon the motorcycle and flee. Police detectives recovered Peter Samuel’s dropped mobile phone at the scene, leading to the suspects’ arrest.
Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Kwarans’ lives and properties. He also emphasized enforcing the 9 pm to 6 am daily restriction on motorcycle and tricycle movement. The suspects will face court proceedings upon completion of investigations.
