A businessman from Tsaragi, located in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, has regained his freedom after
spending days in captivity at the hands of armed bandits. Reports indicate that his release came only after his family paid a
ransom of N110 million to secure his freedom. According to local sources, the businessman was abducted last week by
heavily armed men who invaded his residence in Tsaragi at night. The attackers were said to have fired sporadic gunshots
to instill fear among residents before whisking their victim away to an undisclosed location deep within the
forest.The incident caused widespread panic in Tsaragi and its neighboring communities, as locals lamented the
growing wave of insecurity and the frequent abductions occurring across Kwara State and other parts of Nigeria’s
North-Central region. Family members of the victim reportedly entered into intense negotiations with the kidnappers after
receiving a phone call demanding an exorbitant ransom. Despite pleas from relatives and community leaders for the
bandits to reduce their demands, the kidnappers insisted on a huge sum before the businessman could be released. After
days of emotional distress and fundraising efforts by family and friends, the N110 million ransom was allegedly delivered to
the abductors at a designated spot in a forest area near the Kwara-Niger border. Shortly after the payment, the
businessman was set free and has since reunited with his family. A local community leader in Tsaragi, who spoke under
anonymity, confirmed the development. He condemned the increasing criminal activities in the area and urged the Kwara
State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts in protecting rural communities from violent crimes.
“The security situation is becoming unbearable. We can no longer sleep with our two eyes closed. We appeal to the
authorities to deploy more personnel and take proactive measures to safeguard our people,” the community leader
lamented.Although police authorities have yet to officially confirm the payment of ransom, a source within the Kwara State
Police Command revealed that security operatives are monitoring the area and gathering intelligence to track down those
behind the abduction.This latest incident highlights the growing concern over the rising cases of kidnappings for ransom
across Nigeria, particularly in states such as Kwara, Niger, and Kogi, where rural communities remain highly vulnerable.
The freed businessman, whose identity has not been disclosed for security
reasons, is said to be receiving medical attention and counseling after the traumatic experience.
