The National leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his stance on the Tax Reform Bills, citing the economic challenges faced by many Nigerians. Kwankwaso emphasized that introducing new taxes or reviewing existing ones at this time would be ill-advised and would impose additional financial burdens on the people.
Kwankwaso drew parallels with former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, who withdrew critical bills in the interest of Nigerians. He urged President Tinubu to heed the counsel of the National Economic Council and other respected voices of wisdom, prioritizing the common good over personal or ego-driven motivations.
In a post on his X handle, Kwankwaso stated that the government must prioritize providing relief and support to the people, rather than imposing additional financial burdens. He emphasized that withdrawing these bills is not without precedent, citing the examples of presidents Obasanjo and Jonathan.
